BIOSIS pursues final negotiations for sale to Thomson.The Board of Directors of Biological Abstracts has voted to pursue final negotiations with The Thomson Corp. (Toronto, ON) for the sale of the publishing assets of Bological Abstracts, Inc. (Philadephia, PA) and BIOSIS BIOSIS Biosciences Information Service UK (York, UK). BIOSIS said Thomson was selected from an initial group of 18 profit and non-profit organizations. Four final potential partners underwent a review by the Board. Explaining the decision, chairman of the board Dr. James Beach said that "Thomson/ISI has a history of providing quality services to the global community of life science researchers in both academic and corporate markets ... Thomson seems best prepared to successfully manage and enhance BIOSIS publishing services, while increasing the products' dissemination in the life science research community." The Thomson bid includes a partnership with CAB International (Cambridge, MA/ Wallingford, UK), a non-profit publisher of information for the applied life sciences and environmental safety areas, to distribute BIOSIS products. |
