BIO Mid-America Draws Biotech, Pharma and Investors.
"BIO Mid-America VentureForum successfully brought together emerging biotech companies and investors to encourage greater investment in emerging new therapies for diseases," said BIO President and CEO Jim Greenwood.
For the first time at BIO Mid-America, several of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies, including Abbott, Eli Lilly and Company, Procter & Gamble, and Pfizer Inc, provided corporate presentations sharing business development strategies and highlighting their focus on partnerships with emerging companies. BIO added these presentations to the program because of pharmaceutical companies' interest in reaching early stage companies, and their investors, for potential deal making.
"These presentations exemplify the growing trend of large cap pharmaceutical companies' commitment to identifying and partnering with seed and early-stage entrepreneurial companies," said Alan Eisenberg, executive vice president of emerging companies and business development at BIO.
The event featured presentation on biotech companies, a series of workshops on biotech trends and strategies, business development opportunities, and networking receptions. GE Healthcare's Michael J. Barber presented a keynote address focused on GE's Early Health strategy to use technology and bio-science to transform healthcare through earlier diagnosis, information, intervention and ongoing monitoring of disease and disease indicators.
Partners for the 2007 conference include BioOhio, Colorado Bioscience Association, Illinois Biotechnology Industry Organization, Indiana Health Industry Forum, Iowa Biotechnology Association, LifeScience Alley, MichBio, Missouri Biotechnology Association, and the Wisconsin Biotechnology and Medical Device Association.
