Industrial biotechnology (known mainly in Europe as white biotechnology and Bioprocessing. This dynamic three day event will be held April 27-30, 2008 at the Hilton Chicago in Chicago, Illinois. Key thought leaders from the biotechnology industry, academia, and science community. The call for papers and panels deadline is December 12, 2007. The fifth annual World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioprocessing is the only conference dedicated solely to industrial biotechnology and the most recent advancements in the field. Program tracks include: 1.) Biofuels and Bioenergy (ethanol, cellulosic ethanol Cellulosic ethanol is a type of biofuel produced from lignocellulose, a structural material that comprises much of the mass of plants. It is composed mainly of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. , biodiesel, microbial fuel cells A microbial fuel cell (MFC) or biological fuel cell is a bio-electrochemical system that drives a current by mimicking bacterial interactions found in nature. Micro-organisms catabolize compounds such as glucose (Chen, et al. , advanced biofuels, energy from algae algae (ăl`jē) [plural of Lat. alga=seaweed], a large and diverse group of primarily aquatic plantlike organisms. These organisms were previously classified as a primitive subkingdom of the plant kingdom, the thallophytes (plants that etc.) 2.) Feedstocks (use of agricultural and forestry residues, new energy crops, feedstock feed·stock n. Raw material required for an industrial process. Noun 1. feedstock - the raw material that is required for some industrial process raw material, staple - material suitable for manufacture or use or finishing collection, pre-processing, cell wall modification, etc.) 3.) Chemicals and Biomaterials (biopolymers, renewable chemical platforms, fine chemicals from biomass, and other chemical platforms) 4.) Consumer Manufacturing and Bioprocessing (industrial biotech for foods, flavorings, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, health and nutrition, detergents; and novel applications in nano-biotech, mineral recovery, etc.) 5.) Business Development, Infrastructure and Public Policy (business models, financing, policies for developing biobased economies, intellectual property issues, carbon markets, etc.) The 2008 World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioprocessing will be co-hosted by the National Agricultural Biotechnology Council.
