Aitken - who last bulged the net with a spectacular own goal against Romanian champions Unirea Uricenzi - fired home from close range with just six minutes left after a dramatic encounter. That saved the Somerset Park side's blushes against a Stirling outfit that had Andrew Graham and Ross Forsyth red-carded after Stewart Devine's opener for the Binos had been cancelled out by a William Easton cracker. Thrilled Aitken said: "It's about four years since I last scored a goal at the right end but I did score an own goal against the Romanians a few weeks ago. Lobbed "It was quite spectacular - I lobbed our keeper from 20 yards - but thankfully the boys haven't given me too much stick. "We were all grateful for that goal at the end, though, because Stirling were defending like their lives depended on it and I thought the game was heading for a penalty shoot-out. "Now we can look forward to the next round and hope we get an SPL (1) (Systems Programming Language) The assembly language for the HP 3000 series. See assembly language for an SPL program example. (2) (Structured Programming Language) See structured programming. 1. side to bring some cash in." The away side took the game to Stirling early on and could have been three goals to the good before Devine's 16th-minute opener. The first chance fell to Kevin James in 10 minutes but despite connecting well with Chris Aitken's corner the header was brilliantly saved by Scott Christie. The Binos keeper was the hero again moments later as he denied Mark Roberts twice in as many minutes, blocking the striker's first effort and then turning over a second 18-yard attempt. Against the run of play The term "against the run of play" is used in football (soccer) to describe an event or action against the flow of the game. For example, if team A is having all of the possession, all of the chances and are dictating the game, yet team B have one chance and score from it then that Ayr were caught in 16 minutes when Michael Mullen dribbled his way past three defenders before cutting the ball back for Devine to bundle it over the line. Despite their near constant pressure it took Ayr until the hour mark to level the score thanks to Easton's stunning 25-yard drive. Graham was red-carded for a second bookable offence, as was Forsyth, as the game went into extra time. Despite being two men to the good, Ayr struggled to kill off Stirling and after David Gormley had twice come close with headers it took Aitken's strike to settle it.
