Augusta called Baca's commitment to public safety in the Antelope Valley remarkable, noting the sheriff has honored a promise made at the group's Feb.26 town hall meeting to deploy additional deputies.

The program has flooded high-crime areas throughout the valley with out-of-town deputies, producing more than 400 arrests.
