Runner, Jr. (born March 25 1952 in Scotia, New York) is a Republican California State Senator, who represents the 17th Senate District, which includes portions of Los Angeles County, San Bernardino County and Ventura County. , R-Lancaster, said Thursday.

Senate Bill 143, authored by Runner, was approved by a 7-1 vote in the Senate Committee on Government Modernization, Efficiency and Accountability. The bill now moves to the Senate Appropriations Committee In the United States government, the Appropriations Committee can refer to either:

heavily by more expensive regions like the cities of Los Angeles and Long Beach, which places the Antelope Valley at a disadvantage with no accurate reflection of the affordability of this region,'' Runner said.

The bill would require any state agency or department that develops and maintains data about California's counties to make a separate category for the Antelope Valley. The data would help in planning for issues facing the region, such as transportation, land use and education, supporters said.

The statistics would also assist in attracting businesses and in securing grants by providing information specifically about the valley, Runner said.

The bill is supported by city officials from Lancaster and Palmdale and from economic development groups such as the Antelope Valley Board of Trade, the Greater Antelope Valley Economic Alliance and the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp.

``We feel that the Antelope Valley area of Los Angeles County has immense future potential, but capturing the full dimensions of its economy has been difficult,'' LAEDC LAEDC Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation

economist Jack Kyser wrote in a statement of support for the bill. ``SB 143 would not only aid our economic development efforts in the Antelope Valley, but would no doubt encourage private sector entities to start reporting on the valley.''
