BILL COULD LET WATER AGENCY RESELL POWER.

A bill that would allow the Castaic Lake Castaic Lake is a lake on Castaic Creek formed by Castaic Dam, in northwestern Los Angeles County, California, near the town of Castaic. The 323,700 acre foot lake (399,000,000 m³) is the terminus of the West Branch of the California Aqueduct, though some comes from the 154 mi²  Water Agency to resell electricity will head to the Assembly floor within the next two weeks after receiving bipartisan support in committee.

The bill, by Assemblyman George Runner George C. Runner, Jr. (born March 25 1952 in Scotia, New York) is a Republican California State Senator, who represents the 17th Senate District, which includes portions of Los Angeles County, San Bernardino County and Ventura County. , R-Lancaster, would allow the water agency to buy electricity at a low rate and resell it to the Valencia and the Santa Clarita water companies.

The bill, AB 388, was originally opposed by Southern California Edison Southern California Edison (or SCE Corp), the largest subsidiary of Edison International (NYSE: EIX), is the primary electricity supply company for much of Southern California. It provides 11 million people with electricity.  and the Newhall County Water District because the wording would have allowed the Castaic agency to sell power directly to consumers. Both groups have dropped their opposition.

The Castaic agency provides water from the State Water Project to the area's four water retailers, which in turn sell to consumers. Castaic and two of the four are public agencies and are able to buy electricity through a cooperative at a lower price.
