With classes scheduled to start in less than a year, Ventura County supervisors Tuesday endorsed pending legislation that would create an oversight committee for nonacademic operations at CSU See DSU/CSU.

 Channel Islands.

, D-Santa Barbara, is expected to introduce a bill as early as next week that would create the California State University, Channel Islands California State University, Channel Islands (CSUCI) is a university located in Camarillo, California, in California's Ventura County. CSUCI opened in 2002 as the twenty-third campus in the California State University system, succeeding the Ventura County branch campus of , Authority, to be composed of four college district trustees, two county supervisors and a city council member.

The authority would have the power to use property and sales tax sales tax, levy on the sale of goods or services, generally calculated as a percentage of the selling price, and sometimes called a purchase tax. It is usually collected in the form of an extra charge by the retailer, who remits the tax to the government.  revenue for capital improvements and to sell bonds, lease property and provide a variety of tax incentives for on-site businesses.

Supervisor Frank Schillo said he and Long likely will fill the two supervisors' seats on the authority because the 650-acre site falls within his district while nearby Camarillo is in Long's district.

The city council representative likely will be from Camarillo as the former Camarillo State Hospital will house the campus, Schillo said.

J. Handel Evans, CSU Channel Island's president, said he is ecstatic about the governor's proposal.

``It shows support for the reuse of the hospital,'' he said. ``We're building for the next 100 years.''

Some 1,500 CSU students are at an off-campus facility in Ventura. Approximately 2,000 students are expected to enroll when the permanent facility opens in January 1999.
