LANCASTER -- State Sen. George Runner George C. Runner, Jr. (born March 25 1952 in Scotia, New York) is a Republican California State Senator, who represents the 17th Senate District, which includes portions of Los Angeles County, San Bernardino County and Ventura County. , R-Lancaster, is looking to toughen teen driving laws to make it easier for law enforcement to check for violations of license provisions.

Runner introduced Senate Bill 285 to allow law enforcement officers to stop vehicles to determine whether the driver is violating one of the provisions of a teen driver's license Noun 1. driver's license - a license authorizing the bearer to drive a motor vehicle

from stopping a vehicle for the sole purpose of checking on violations of the restrictions on teen drivers.

The bill also would put violations of the provisional license on young drivers' records.

"We have made important improvements to our teen driving laws in recent years, which have proven to increase the safety of our roads," Runner said. "This bill provides needed tools to better enforce the teen-driver laws, which will save more of our teens' lives."

Under the Brady-Jared Teen Safety Driver Act of 1997, during the first year of holding a license, teen drivers are not allowed to drive passengers younger than 20 unless accompanied by a licensed adult 25 or older.

For the first year, teen drivers are not allowed to drive from midnight to 5a.m. unless they are accompanied by a licensed adult 25 or older.
