BIKES STOLEN, BUT FESTIVAL'S NOT GONE WITH THE SCHWINN MUSIC, SPORTS WILL COME TOGETHER FOR SATURDAY EVENT.

Byline: Peggy Hager Staff Writer

LANCASTER - Despite a theft of nearly $40,000 in bikes and merchandise, the second annual Block Jam will go on Saturday as planned.

Featuring live bands and professional bicycle riders, the event will run from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Block Compound, 42217 12th St. W.

``We're pulling together people that would never do this if it wasn't for the festival,'' said Rich Barlett, owner of Block BMX BMX
abbr.

, the sponsor. ``It's an alternative sport that any kid can do. Every kid has a bicycle and every kid's into music. It's just a totally positive event. For the most part, it's just sharing with people what we do on a daily basis.''

Headlining will be Schwinn BMX racer T.J. Lavin and Tim ``Fuzzy'' Hall, who rides for Mongoose mongoose, name for a large number of small, carnivorous, terrestrial Old World mammals of the civet family. They are found in S Asia and in Africa, with one species extending into S Spain. . Lavin is a two-time X Game gold medalist.

Admission is free.

A May 5 burglary cost Block BMX $40,000 worth of mountain bikes, BMX bikes, bike parts and custom clothing. Stolen were 12 complete bikes and parts for another 12.

``I'm trying to make light of everything, but I'm really frustrated right now,'' said Barlett. ``It was a major setback. Pretty much everything was for the show. It's not going to hinder the show part of it.''

During Saturday's event, food will be provided by Bootlegger BBQ BBQ barbecue , and vendor booths will feature those from A.V. Sport Truck, West Coast Hoppers, Kind Clothing, Mob Status and Imbas Clothing. The Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region.
