The seventh annual Beach Ride brought Harley-Davidson enthusiasts and motorcycle buffs of all types to the beach. Organizers estimated this year's crowd at 9,000, a 50 percent increase over last year, said spokesman Harvey Farr. Each attendee paid $25, which will go to assist the Exceptional Children's Foundation, an organization that helps children and adults with developmental disabilities developmental disabilities (DD), n.pl the pathologic conditions that have their origin in the embryology and growth and development of an individual. DDs usually appear clinically before 18 years of age. . Last year's Beach Ride brought in $40,000, with $60,000 expected this year. Seven years ago, the foundation opted to try a motorcycle event to raise money in a different way, said Robert Shushan, the foundation's executive director. Bikers are as willing to help out charity as anyone else, Shushan said. ``It was a totally different part of the community that was going to be participating,'' he said. The organization also stages a run and golf tournament to raise money, Shushan said. About 500 volunteers were needed to make the Beach Ride run, he said. The 130 vendors at the event hawked wares ranging from comfortable bike seats to bandannas and novelty teeth. The dress code included cigars for men, tight tops for women and jeans, leather and tattoos for everybody. The sight of a few dozen bikers cruising on the freeways didn't seem to disturb other drivers, said Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. He changed his plans and stayed for the event. Hix ran into a T-shirt vendor that he had met before in Colorado. ``It beings a lot of people together,'' he said. ``You meet people all over the place.'' Bikers do not need an excuse to have a party, but helping charity draws everyone in, Hix said. ``That's the main reason to have it,'' he said.
