BIGGEST CLASS YET GRADUATES FROM COLLEGE OF THE CANYONS.

Byline: Patricia Farrell Aidem Staff Writer

VALENCIA - College of the Canyons' Class of 2000 graduated Friday night as the community college's largest class ever.

There were 719 graduates, marking a 15 percent increase over 1999.

``We just keep growing each year,'' college spokeswoman Sue Bozman said. ``Next year will be bigger, and the same year after year.''

There were nearly twice as many women - 467 - as men - 252- and the average student was 27.7 years old.

The oldest graduates were two 57-year-olds, Diane Duffer and Martha Schafer. The youngest was 18-year-old Porche J. Jones.

The Class of 2000 had 220 minority students and six students from other nations. There were 24 students from the college's Progressive Adult College Education program, a fast-track system designed for working adults to complete their degrees in as few as five semesters.
