BIGGER, BETTER FESTIVAL CELEBRATED NOHO EVENT DRAWS ART, THEATER LOVERS.

Byline: Lisa M. Sodders Staff Writer

NORTH HOLLYWOOD - Six-year-old Alyssa Fajardo of Burbank stood transfixed as a troupe of actors presented ``Fractured Fractured is the Industrial Music band created by Canadian Nick Gorman in 2003. Located in Toronto Canada, his self produced release CD-R demo entitled Contami-Nation caught the attention of European label Dependent Records, who signed them.  Fairy Tales'' on an outdoor stage Saturday at the 13th annual NoHo Theatre & Arts Festival An arts festival or art fair is a festival that focuses on the visual arts, but which may also focus on other arts.

to try an imaginary slipper on her foot, but her favorite part, she confided later, was when the wicked stepsister died in a vat of boiling nut oil.

``We came here last year,'' her father, Mario Fajardo, 34, said with a grin. ``There's lots of family activities, a very nice fair and cool free stuff. And when the kids see people being creative, they know it's OK to be creative and express themselves.''

And just as ``Fractured Fairy Tales'' didn't present the typical take on ``Cinderella'' - based on Asian fairy tales This is a list of fairy tales, the dates of their earliest known printed version, the author and, if known, the collection of tales in which it was published. It should be noted, however, that not all stories listed below would be categorized as fairy tales by a strict definition , the heroine gets killed and reincarnated twice before the happy ending - the NoHo Theatre & Arts Festival has undergone some dramatic changes, too.

Now run by Bill Lomas' Pagentry Productions, it's about six blocks longer with 22 spaces offering free live theatrical performances, more than 150 booths, carnival carnival, communal celebration, especially the religious celebration in Catholic countries that takes place just before Lent. Since early times carnivals have been accompanied by parades, masquerades, pageants, and other forms of revelry that had their origins in  rides and games, live musical performances and food. Organizers are anticipating about 25,000 visitors Saturday and today.

``The arts can get pushed aside, but when you close off the streets, and it becomes something right in your back yard, people can walk to it and watch performances of all kinds,'' said Richard Kuhlman, who directed the North Hollywood Arts Hollywood Arts is a full-service art center opened in Hollywood, California. The program is unique in that it is designed to give homeless, runaway and at-risk teenagers access to the arts both for art therapy and to teach job-readiness and life skills that will help them get off  Center production of ``Fractured Fairy Tales.''

Deb and Russell Towne, 37 and 38, of North Hollywood did just that. Both said they were impressed at the festival's size this year.

``Keeping the baby asleep, that's our main goal,'' Deb Towne said, as Hope, 6 months, slumbered in her stroller. She said they planned to take a quick tour around the festival and then come back later and see some of the plays.

One of the artists, Sid Chidiac, 36, of Sydney, Australia, wowed visitors with his paintings - including images of Arnold Schwarzenegger Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger (German pronunciation (IPA): [ˈaɐ̯nɔlt ˈaloɪ̯s ˈʃvaɐ̯ʦənˌʔɛɡɐ]  and Marilyn Monroe - done entirely in Barry Callebaut Belgian chocolate.

The colorful paintings, which looked like they were rendered in oil paint, even smelled like chocolate, although Chidiac said he tempers them in a secret process to keep them from spoiling spoil

``People love chocolate,'' he said, smiling. ``They cannot resist it. And I want people who can't resist my paintings.''
