BIG-TIME OVERHAUL FOR CBS SCHEDULE.

Completing a trend of the Big Three networks, CBS (Cell Broadcast Service) See cell broadcast.  dropped a movie night and added another newsmagazine for the upcoming fall season.

In other major schedule developments at CBS, big money gamble ``Ink'' is now invisible, and, other than its successful weekend programming, the network overhauled the entire schedule.

The Tuesday movie is gone from the lineup, and a new weekly news show starring Bryant Gumbel has been added at 9 p.m. Wednesdays.

CBS added three comedies, three dramas (one a cop show and the other two about former cops still in the business of catching bad guys) and the Gumbel vehicle.

Gone are ``Dave's World Dave's World was a 1993–1997 CBS sitcom that was based on the writing of Miami Herald columnist Dave Barry. The show focused on the daily trials and tribulations of columnist Barry (Harry Anderson) of the fictional Miami Record-Dispatch ,'' ``Almost Perfect,'' ``Moloney,'' ``EZ Streets'' and ``Pearl,'' another show that fit into the network's ``Welcome Home'' theme.

CBS is still welcoming home some previously seen stars such as David Caruso, who will star in ``Michael Hayes'' (9 p.m. Tuesdays); Danny Aiello Daniel Louis Aiello, Jr. (born June 20, 1933[1]) is an American actor who has appeared in numerous motion pictures, including Once Upon a Time in America, Ruby, , Hudson Hawk, The Purple Rose of Cairo, Moonstruck, , , who will star in ``Dellaventura'' (10 p.m. Tuesdays); and Bob Newhart George Robert "Bob" Newhart (born September 5, 1929 in Oak Park, Illinois) is an American stand-up comedian and actor.  and Judd Hirsch Judd Hirsch (born March 15, 1935) is an American Academy Award-nominated, Emmy-winning actor, known for playing the character Alex Reiger on the acclaimed television comedy series Taxi. , who star in ``George & Leo'' (9:30 p.m., Mondays). Urkel (Jaleel White Jaleel Ahmad White (born November 27, 1976 in Pasadena, California), is an American actor. He is most famous for his role as Steve Urkel/Stefan Urquelle on the TV series Family Matters from 1989 to 1998. ) and his ``Family Matters,'' and ``Step by Step'' (Patrick Duffy Patrick G. Duffy (born March 17, 1949 in Townsend, Montana) is an American television actor, who appeared primarily in soap operas and television, who is of Irish descent.  and Suzanne Somers Suzanne Somers (born October 16, 1946) is an American actress, author, and businesswoman. Best known for her role as the ditzy blonde Chrissy Snow on the ABC sitcom Three's Company, she also had a noted starring role on the sitcom Step by Step ) join the Friday lineup after leaving ABC.

Here's the lineup:

Monday: The first hour and a half of the night remains the same as it was at season's end: ``Cosby,'' followed by ``Everybody Loves Raymond'' and ``Cybill.''

``George & Leo'' stars Newhart and Hirsch as a pair of incredibly mismatched in-laws. Promising ``Brooklyn South,'' an ensemble police drama created by Steven Bochco, the best in the world at doing ensemble police dramas, gets CBS' best 10 p.m. slot.

Tuesday: ``JAG'' kicks off the evening in a new time period, followed by ``Michael Hayes,'' in which Caruso plays Hayes, a former heads-up cop who is now a federal prosecutor. At 10 p.m., Aiello's ``Dellaventura,'' a one-time cop and current private investigator, will handle the cases the cops won't.

Wednesday: ``The Nanny'' is followed by ``Murphy Brown'' in its new time period. Gumbel's new show will be seen in the 9 p.m. slot. It will offer regular newsmagazine things, plus interviews by Gumbel, who often asks questions by making a statement and then adding ``Why?'' At 10 p.m., ``Chicago Hope'' will move over from Mondays and try its third night in three years.

Thursday: CBS' entry in the battle for second will include ``Promised Land'' (8 p.m.) and ``Diagnosis Murder'' (9 p.m.) in new time periods, and at 10 p.m. it's ``48 Hours.''

Friday: Going directly after ABC, which has enjoyed phenomenal success with its kidcom block, CBS offers four youth-oriented comedies and ``Nash Bridges'' at 10 p.m.

At 8 p.m., it's the ever-popular ``Family Matters,'' which is tiring a bit but brings an audience.

At 8:30 p.m., ``Meego'' debuts. It stars Bronson Pinchot as a 9,000-year-old alien who becomes attached to a family that includes Jonathan ``the human head weighs 8 pounds'' Lipnicki (that cute kid from ``Jerry Maguire''). Like the two ABC castoffs, ``Meego'' comes from Miller-Boyett-Warren Productions.

``The Gregory Hines Show'' will air at 9 p.m. It is about a widowed dad who gets back into the dating game and has to relearn Verb 1. relearn - learn something again, as after having forgotten or neglected it; "After the accident, he could not walk for months and had to relearn how to walk down stairs"  everything his 12-year-old son is learning for the first time.

``Step by Step,'' gets the 9:30 time period.

Saturday: Same old, same old: ``Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman'' (8 p.m.), ``Early Edition'' (9 p.m.) and ``Walker, Texas Ranger'' (10 p.m.).

Sunday: At 7 p.m., it's ``60 Minutes'' in its third decade, followed by ``Touched by an Angel'' (8 p.m.) and the ``CBS Sunday Movie'' (9 p.m.).
