No one was injured, but the crash spilled gallons of diesel fuel and oil and closed southbound Interstate 5 for about two hours as crews cleaned up the freeway, Moore said. By 2:30 p.m., all lanes were reopened.

The traffic jam was an unpleasant surprise for Danielle Garrett, who was on her way to San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. ``I have to put up with it,'' he said. ``We spent an inordinate amount of time on the freeway. It's bad. ... One of these days, I hope to have a helicopter to fly over all this stuff.''

But the traffic jam was not all bad. For Kiran Patel, the owner of the gas station and mini-mart near the I-5 entrance on Lyons Avenue, business was buzzing and it was just the beginning of the holiday weekend. He estimates sales are usually up about 20 percent whenever an crash occurs along the freeway.

``It's very busy,'' he said. ``Sometimes a lot of people would come in asking for help (around the traffic jam). I just leave a sign to give them directions.''
