BIG TIME, BIG SCREEN SALES DURING SUPER BOWL WEEK

CYPRESS, Calif., Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Super Bowl fans across the country are rushing to buy big screen televisions before this Sunday's kickoff, making this week one of the busiest for retail sales of large-screen televisions.
According to an Electronic Industries Association survey, nearly 15 percent of the quarter million big-screen televisions (31-inch and larger) sold by Mitsubishi Electronics America Inc. in 1992, occurred during January. This was the company's largest month for sales of direct-view (tube) and projection big-screen televisions.
"Only a handful of lucky ticket holders have booked flights to Los Angeles," said Tachi Kiuchi, president Mitsubishi Consumer Electronics Group. "Everyone else, approximately 80 million, will be watching the game on TV -- the really lucky ones will be watching from the comfort of their homes on big-screen televisions."
Most fans will be watching on Mitsubishi-brand big screens as one of every four big-screen televisions in American homes are manufactured by Mitsubishi.
All of this pre-game excitement creates a yearly sales phenomenon at retail stores selling the larger-than-life televisions. Beginning in early January, right up through the day of the game, big-screen televisions fly out of the stores faster than retailers can unplug them, giving retailers an annual best month in big screen sales.
Mitsubishi Electronics, a leading manufacturer of big-screen televisions, suggests that consumers do a little research prior to making a television purchase.
"Before these football fans succumb to the overwhelming desire to be part of the action, we suggest they consider a few things," stated Kiuchi. "After all, everyone makes better purchasing decisions if prepared."
According to Kiuchi, sports fans should make sure the television fits their room. A big screen should provide a big picture, not big space demands. Big screens should also be easy to use -- look for technology that is accessible. And make sure the television will integrate with other video and audio components. For example, all of Mitsubishi's big-screen televisions are designed to grow with the home entertainment system. They are compatible with past, present and future Mitsubishi components.
The Audio Video Division of the Consumer Electronics Group (CEG) of Mitsubishi Electronics America sells and markets a comprehensive line of premium-quality big-screen projection and direct-view televisions, home theater components, camcorders and VCRs. The recognized inventor of big-screen technology, Mitsubishi develops products that lead the industry in performance, ease-of-use and system integration.
CEG is located at 5665 Plaza Dr., Cypress, CA 90630.
