Hooray for Big Springs Elementary! They took First Place in the Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  Days Parade. Thanks to all who participated and all who cheered them on.

The Big Springs PTA PTA or parent-teacher association: see parent education.  will kick off this year's Holiday Giftwrap Fund-raiser today, and the effort will continue until Oct. 18. Be on the lookout for in search of; looking for.

Students from Garden Grove Garden Grove, city (1990 pop. 143,050), Orange co., S Calif., a suburb of Long Beach and Los Angeles, on the Santa Ana River; founded 1877, inc. 1956. Many of its residents work in nearby aerospace and defense installations, and there is light manufacturing.  Elementary proudly marched in the Sept. 21 parade and took second-place honors among the elementary schools elementary school: see school.  that participated.

 Week'' on Oct. 23 with a student rally and various student activities all week. This year's theme will be ``Dare to Make a Difference.''

The Garden Grove PTA fund-raiser was a huge success. Thank you to all who participated! With the proceeds, the PTA will be sponsoring events, programs and field trips for the students.

Garden Grove students will attend the PTA-sponsored program ``American Folk Dance'' assembly Oct. 22.

On Friday, the Easy Street Arena is sponsoring a special benefit for the Simi Valley PTA Council. Attend one of the public ice-skating sessions between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the rink at 131 W. Easy St. in Simi Valley.

A portion of the proceeds will go to the Simi Council. Friday is a student-free day for the Simi Valley Unified School District A unified school district is a school district which includes both primary school (kindergarten through middle school or junior high) and high school (grades 9-12). In Illinois, these districts are called unit school districts. . Admission is $4 per student and $5.50 per adult, and skate skate, fish: see ray.

The Simi Valley PTA Council is pleased to sponsor a school board candidates forum from 7 to 10 p.m. Oct. 16 in the Simi Valley City Council Chambers. This is an opportunity for residents to meet, ask questions of, and listen to the candidates for Simi Valley Board of Education.

The City Council Chambers is located at 2929 Tapo Canyon Road.

Reflections coordinator Tricia Kremer is planning an after-school workshop for all Reflections participants on Oct. 18. This year's theme is ``It Could Happen.'' Entries are due by Nov. 12. For more information, inquire in the school office.

The 12th District PTA held its first association meeting Sept. 26, with volunteers attending workshops to help them in their PTA positions. Workshops will focus on the offices of president and treasurer (going beyond the budget), newsletter writing, communication skills and conflict management, membership and media training. All members of local PTA/PTSAs are invited to attend these meetings.
