VALENCIA - The Newhall Land and Farming Company The Newhall Land and Farming Company is a land management company based in Valencia, California, United States. The company is responsible for the master community planning of Valencia, as well as the management of farm land elsewhere in the state.  declared 2001 a record year highlighted by unprecedented housing sales and the sales of key assets including the Chiquita Canyon Landfill and land that will house a prestigious film archive.

In its annual report released Wednesday, the company boasted record net income of $91.1 million for the calendar year.

``It was our best year ever,'' spokeswoman Marlee Lauffer said.

Also during the past year, Newhall Land sold 92 acres of commercial and industrial land, including the 23-acre Rockwell Canyon Business Park. Packard Humanities Institute plans a campus there that will house the University of California, Los Angeles UCLA comprises the College of Letters and Science (the primary undergraduate college), seven professional schools, and five professional Health Science schools. Looking ahead, the company expects to begin building homes at Westridge, where 600 lots are available to builders. Newhall Land plans to market a total of 1,100 residential lots this year.

Also, 500 more homes are planned this year in northern Valencia, including the West Creek development, where construction is expected to begin at the end of 2002.
