BIG RIG HITS VAN, CAREENS OFF I-5.

CASTAIC - Seven people were injured, one seriously, when the van they were in was struck early Friday by a big rig Big Rig was a punk band from the San Francisco Bay Area fronted by singer/songwriter Jesse Michaels. Michaels performed with the group after the break up of his previous project, Operation Ivy, and before forming the band Common Rider.  on Interstate 5.

 investigators believe driver Rigoberto Vargas, 47, of Los Angeles was fatigued.

One occupant of the van, which was stopped on the shoulder, had gotten out of the vehicle and was re-entering when it was hit and he was thrown a short distance. The other six occupants were seat-belted inside and suffered only minor injuries.

The van occupants, friends from all over Southern California, were headed to a wedding in Oregon.
