BIG MACS MCMOBILE WITH HOME DELIVERY.

Byline: Enrique Rivero Daily News Staff Writer

McDonald's golden arches The Golden Arches are the famous symbol of McDonald's, a fast-food hamburger chain based in Oak Brook, Illinois, USA. They were introduced in 1953, when Dick and Mac McDonald began franchising their company, as part of the standard building design: a pair of stylized arches, one  are coming to your neighborhood, bringing along Big Macs, fries and everything else on the menu.

Hoping to offer an alternative to the drive-through service he can't give the public at the McDonald's Express on Cochran Street, the owner of the franchise recently began providing home delivery. Corporate officials said they believe the delivery service is a first for a McDonald's on the West Coast.

``We wanted to put a little dent in it,'' Powell said. ``We thought it would be a nice little niche to deliver hamburgers.''

``Now they can say, `You want pizza or do you want a Big Mac?' '' Powell said.

McDonald's home delivery is rare, but not unique, said Malesia Webb-Dunn, a spokeswoman for McDonald's Corp. in Oak Brook, Ill.

``That's not something we're doing nationally,'' Webb-Dunn said. ``But there is a group of restaurants in, guess where, New York New York, state, United States

The germ of the idea began forming about a year ago, when the McDonald's Express first opened in February in the Sycamore sycamore: see plane tree.

The McDonald's Express is the same as the mini-McDonald's found in Wal-Mart stores - it has the same small floor plan and can offer some of the same non-McDonald's specialties such as pizzas and pretzels, Garcia said. ``Other McDonald's can't do that,'' he said.

But the express doesn't have a drive-through, limiting the amount of money it can generate.

``Since we're an Express we don't have a drive-through and we have to accommodate sales some other way,'' Garcia said.

months, Powell and Garcia decided on home delivery. The service commenced Jan. 6.

Initially, the plan was to offer home delivery from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, Garcia said. ``We weren't planning to do it on Saturdays, but we had such a bombardment of calls on the first Saturday that we had to do it.''

Delivery is provided free for orders of $10 or more; there is a $2 delivery fee added to orders under $10, he said.

Deliveries are made over an area from Erringer Road to Kuehner Drive - about half the city. The number of daily orders varies, but the store received about 30 orders Saturday, Garcia said.

The emphasis currently is on dinner, but the store hopes to add breakfast to the home delivery program. It also plans to add pizzas to the delivery menu, he said.

As of now, the three drivers are kept on the go most of the evening.

Powell said there seems to be a pent-up desire in town for this kind of service among harried residents who want to find their next meal a little easier. ``I think it's more convenient for people - people don't have time anymore.''
