Wednesday's efforts were a far cry from Tuesday's outing, when the Antelope Valley girls mustered only one hit in a 9-0 loss to the East (Maryland) squad. ``It was nice to see the bats come around today,'' said coach Lester Ball after his team stroked 17 hits in the two games. ``In the first game against Purto Rico, we were a little worried because it takes a whole lot of discipline against (slow) pitching like that. But we were still playing good defense and the pitching is doing OK.'' Beating Pueto Rico and Indianapolis puts Antlope Valley at 3-1, tied with both Michigan District 2 (host kalamazoo) and East (Maryland). Antelope Valley beat Kalamazoo on Monday and lost to Maryland on Wednesday, knotting those three teams at 3-1. In recording their third win of the Series and second of the day, the Antelope Valley girls had to come from behind against Indianapolis. I started out throwing what I thought would work from my previous games, but those things weren't exactly working. But I had to throw what was working today (curveballs and changeups) and I figured that out in the second inning.'' In the opener, Antelope Valley struck early against Puerto Rico, scoring single runs in the first and third innings and two more in the fifth in support of the three-hit pitching of Candace Huling (1-0 in the Series). Back-to-back doubles by Wachsmuth and Pulcifer netted the first run and gave Antelope Valley more runs and more hits than it got in seven innings on Tuesday. Huling shut down the Purto Ricans until the seventh inning, when two walks and a single resulted in their only run. Nix prevented further damage by turning a line drive into a double play.
