Catcher Rebecca Zapata and shortstop/pitcher Johanna Ilejay are now making up for lost time on the Antelope Valley's District 51 Big League softball team.

On Wednesday, they starred in District 51's 5-3 victory over Northern California's District 4 in Game 1 of the West Regional best-of-three championship series at Marie Kerr Park.

District 51 went on to defeat Northern California Northern California, sometimes referred to as NorCal, is the northern portion of the U.S. state of California. Ilejay inherited a 3-1 count with a runner at second with no outs when she entered the game amid tense circumstances in the second. She induced a double-play liner to second, escaping the inning unscathed.

``She didn't have any time to warm up,'' Patison said. ``She had to step in cold turkey and she did a fantastic job.''

In the second game, Kolesar (1-0) allowed one run on two hits in four innings, combining with Laura Calvert on a three-hitter.
