Stark, who went 6-3 with a 1.97 ERA at Wisconsin before earning a promotion earlier this week, limited the Cal League's most prolific attack to two hits. The only balls hit out of the infield against the 22-year-old were Mike Stoner's 20th home run and a Stanton Cameron double.

``I was nervous going in, but I'm nervous before every game,'' Stark said of his debut. Of 107 pitches thrown, 69 went for strikes. ``Once you get out there, you're able to relax.''

Stark got ahead in the count most of the night. He walked the leadoff man in the first and third innings but picked off Garry Maddox

The Mavericks (10-6) failed to keep Joe Mathis off the bases, but that's nothing new. The JetHawks' (11-5) center fielder went 3 for 5, giving him 11 hits in 20 at-bats spanning the past four games.

``I know I'm not that good. Everyone's entitled to a little luck,'' said Mathis, who raised his average 17 points to .285 in the four-day stretch. ``I could easily go into a slump. You just don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)
