MRV Communications Overview
MRV NASDAQ: MRVC is a company that designs, manufactures, sells, distributes, integrates and supports communication equipment and services, and optical components.
 Inc. in Chatsworth reported triple-digit gains in revenues and income for the second quarter, a record for the company.

``We're seeing growth across the board in all our products,'' said Edmund Glazer, chief financial officer. ``Other networking companies have seen some decline. Fortunately, we have not been subject to that.''

The maker of products for the fiber optics fiber optics, transmission of digitized messages or information by light pulses along hair-thin glass fibers. Each fiber is surrounded by a cladding having a high index of refractance so that the light is internally reflected and travels the length of the fiber  and computer data networking markets reported a net income of $2.35 million (21 cents a share) on revenues of $19.6 million for the quarter ended June 30. That's a 158 percent increase in comparable net income and a 136 percent gain in comparable revenues from a year ago.

With the charges included, the 1995 second quarter recorded a net loss of $4.7 million (51 cents). Revenues were $8.3 million. Excluding the one-time charges, net income would have been $911,000.

``In Japan, the whole concept of networking is probably a year or two behind the U.S.,'' he said. ``Fujitsu is a major player in the Japanese market. (The deal) should help MRV in their penetration of this market.''
