SAN DIEGO -- In many ways, Ron Schoonover is no different from the millions of other Americans who have their hopes set on winning HGTV's 2005 Dream Home, a 5,000-square-foot, lakefront retreat valued at more than $1 million. So what makes Schoonover different? He is a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy's Marine Helicopter Corps serving on the front lines in Iraq.

In fact, Schoonover and his wife, Kim, already have made plans to fly from their home on San Diego to East Texas to see the HGTV Dream Home when he completes his tour of duty in Early March. "With any luck, HGTV will draw our name and that amazing home will be ours," Kim said.

The Schoonovers are working the odds, entering to win at HGTV.com practically every day before this week's deadline of Thursday at 5:00 p.m. ET. Contestants may enter once daily. "Ron goes on the Internet to enter whenever he can, and on the days he can't, I try to be sure our name is in there," Kim said. "We both love watching HGTV, and owning a home like this is something we have always talked about. It just hasn't been possible with Ron being in the Navy.

"When I saw this home on HGTV, I fell in love with the architecture. The stone work, the cedar beams and the beautiful setting on Lake Tyler are everything we've wanted in a home," added Kim, who happens to be a native of Texas. "I taped the one-hour special on the Dream Home and sent it to him. We both have been on the HGTV website so many times to take the virtual tour of the home that we decided if we don't win, we will buy a lot there and build. That's why we're flying to Tyler as soon as he gets back to the States."

One of the most successful consumer promotions in cable TV history, this is the ninth year for HGTV's Dream Home Giveaway. With just over 24 hours remaining to enter, this year's totals will surpass last year's record number of 35.8 million entries.
