BIFMA asks Canada to reconsider purchasing plan.


GRAND RAPIDS Grand Rapids, city (1990 pop. 189,126), seat of Kent co., SW central Mich., on the Grand River; inc. 1850. The Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Assn. International is calling on PWGSC to delay the August 2006 Request for a Standing Offer, as well as urging representatives of the federal government to meet with industry professionals to discuss a plan to meet government objectives while minimizing the damage to the furniture industry.

The current plan would create significant Canadian job Loss in the service and manufacturing sectors. It also could result in an increase in the overall cost of products to the government.
