BICYCLE TOUR TO SHUT DOWN SOME ROADS.

VALENCIA -- Four-wheeled traffic will face significant road closures Friday night and Saturday as a throng of bicyclists -- and some 100,000 spectators -- converge on Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. McBean Parkway, the site of the finish line for the Amgen Tour of California The Amgen Tour of California is a professional cycling stage race on the UCI America Tour and USA Cycling Professional Tour that made its debut on February 19, 2006. Sponsored by the biotechnology company Amgen, the eight-day race covers between 650-700 miles (1,045 - 1,126 km). , will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 10 p.m. Saturday from Magic Mountain Parkway to Valencia Boulevard.

Until the bicyclists arrive about 2:20 p.m. in Santa Clarita, state Route 126 will be limited to one westbound lane from Interstate 5 to Ventura as they make their way east. Eastbound east·bound

 will enter Santa Clarita through the Valencia Industrial Center and travel to McBean where they will begin a three-lap circuit traveling westbound on Valencia Boulevard, north on Tourney tourney: see tournament.  Road and east on Magic Mountain Parkway to the finish on McBean near Town Center Drive.

In the industrial center, short-term closures will occur from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the route, which will follow Route 126 to Rye Canyon Road to Avenue Stanford and Avenue Scott. Avenue Tibbets also will be affected as the route crosses it.

The city of Santa Clarita has mailed nearly 100,000 postcards to residents to notify them of the closures.

Delays and short-term closures are anticipated between 1 and 3:30 p.m. on northbound north·bound
