BHP Billiton Production Report for the Quarter Ended 31 December 2001.Business Editors MELBOURNE Melbourne, city, Australia Melbourne, city (1991 pop. 2,761,995), capital of Victoria, SE Australia, on Port Phillip Bay at the mouth of the Yarra River. Melbourne, Australia's second largest city, is a rail and air hub and financial and commercial center. , Australia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 24, 2002 BHP Billiton BHP Billiton is the world's largest mining company.[1] Its origin is in the 2001 merger of Australia's Broken Hill Proprietary Company (BHP) and the UK's Billiton, which has a South African background. The result is a dual-listed company. today released its production report for the quarter ended 31 December December: see month. 2001. The results demonstrate a solid operational performance, particularly from the iron ore ore, metal-bearing mineral mass that can be profitably mined. Nearly all rock deposits contain some metallic minerals, but in many cases the concentration of metal is too low to justify mining the ore. and petroleum assets, and the contribution from new copper, metallurgical met·al·lur·gy n. 1. Billiton's international resource management strategy, including the decision to temporarily reduce copper production by an estimated 170,000 tonnes per annum Per annum Yearly. . -- Aluminium production was six per cent lower than the December 2000 quarter and four per cent lower than the September 2001 quarter. Production at Mozal (Mozambique) was significantly higher during the December 2001 quarter, compared to the corresponding period in 2000, reflecting the completion of full commissioning at that project in December 2000. Lower production at Alumar and Valesul over the half year reflects temporary power usage restrictions instigated by the Brazilian government in June 2001. Power rationing in the north of the country was suspended in January 2001 and it is expected that Alumar will return to full production during the March 2002 quarter. -- Alumina production was 81 per cent higher than the December 2000 quarter and in line with the September 2001 quarter reflecting BHP Billiton's increased ownership in Worsley (Australia), effective January 2001 and a production capacity expansion at that asset, completed in April 2001. -- Oil and Condensate production was in line with both the December 2000 quarter and the September 2001 quarter. Bass Strait (Australia) production remained constant compared to both periods due to successful infill drilling. Liverpool Bay (UK) production was significantly higher than the December 2000 quarter due to increased stabilised production from that asset. Increased production was also recorded at the Bruce Bruce, Scottish royal family descended from an 11th-century Norman duke, Robert de Brus. He aided William I in his conquest of England (1066) and was given lands in England. and Keith Keith may refer to: People with the given name Keith:

Higher production was recorded at the Wanaea/Cossack fields (Australia Australia (ôstrāl`yə), smallest continent, between the Indian and Pacific oceans. With the island state of Tasmania to the south, the continent makes up the Commonwealth of Australia, a federal parliamentary state (2005 est. pop. ) during the December 2001 quarter following planned maintenance in the previous quarter. -- Natural Gas production was 25 per cent higher than the December 2000 quarter and seven per cent higher than the September September: see month. 2001 quarter. Higher year on year gas production at Bass Strait Bass Strait (băs), channel, 80 to 150 mi (129–241 km) wide, between Tasmania and Victoria, SE Australia, connecting the Indian Ocean and Tasman Sea; Port Phillip Bay and Melbourne are on the northwest coast. (Australia) was due to sales into the Eastern Gas Pipeline. Compared to both periods, natural gas production was also significantly higher at the Liverpool Bay Liverpool Bay is a bay of the Irish Sea between north-east Wales, Cheshire, Lancashire and Merseyside to the east of the Irish Sea. The bay is a classic example of a region of freshwater influence. The rivers Alt, Conwy, Dee and Mersey drain into the bay. , Bruce and Keith fields (UK) due to increased customer demand. -- Copper production was 18 per cent lower than the December 2000 quarter and 10 per cent higher than the September 2001 quarter. Copper production at Escondida (Chile Chile (chĭl`ē, Span. chē`lā), officially Republic of Chile, republic (2005 est. pop. 15,981,000), 292,256 sq mi (756,945 sq km), S South America, west of the continental divide of the Andes Mts. ) was lower compared to both periods due to temporary production cuts announced in November November: see month. 2001 and a natural decline in head grade. BHP Billiton recorded higher copper production in the December 2001 quarter following the successful achievement of commercial production at Antamina (Peru) in October October: see month. 2001 - more than four months ahead of schedule. Lower year on year copper production was largely due to BHP Billiton no longer reporting production from the Ok Tedi mine This article is about the Ok Tedi Mine. For the River, see Ok Tedi River. The Ok Tedi Mine is located near the headwaters of the Ok Tedi River, in the Star Mountains Rural LLG of the North Fly District of the Western Province of Papua New Guinea. Higher production in the December 2001 quarter also allowed for the rebuilding of port stockpiles from previously low levels. During the half year, BHP Billiton sold 37.1 million wet tonnes (100 per cent terms) of WA iron ore, which is an increase of 4.9 per cent compared to the corresponding period in 2000. -- Metallurgical Coal production was eight per cent lower than the December 2000 quarter and 10 per cent lower than the September 2001 quarter. Shipments from the Queensland Queensland, state (1991 pop. 2,477,152), 667,000 sq mi (1,727,200 sq km), NE Australia. Brisbane is the capital; other important cities are Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Townsville, Rockhampton, Cairns, and Ipswich. (Australia) coal mines were 13.4 million tonnes over the half year, or two per cent higher than the corresponding period in 2000. Higher production was recorded at Blackwater Blackwater, river, c.100 mi (161 km) long, rising in Co. Kerry, SW Republic of Ireland. It flows east through the dairy region of Co. Cork and Co. Waterford before turning abruptly south and entering the Atlantic Ocean at Youghal Bay. Salmon and trout are caught in the river. Higher production was also recorded at Yabulu (Australia) and Cerro Matoso during the December 2001 quarter following the completion of planned maintenance in the previous period. -- Ekati Ekati may refer to:
December 2000 quarter and 21 per cent higher than the September 2001 quarter following the acquisition of Dia Met Minerals Ltd, effective 1 July 2001. Higher production was also recorded during the December quarter following the commencement of mining at the Misery pipe in December 2001. Production from the Misery pipe will provide a small but consistent proportion of the Ekati(TM) mine's total output with the Panda pipe continuing to be the main source of production. -- Raw Steel production was eight per cent lower than the December 2000 quarter and nine per cent lower than the September 2001 quarter. Lower production was largely due to industrial action at the Port Kembla Port Kembla, Australia: see Wollongong. steelworks (Australia) during the December 2001 quarter.
