, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 28, 2000

Baldwin Hackett & Meeks, Inc. (BHMI) announced today that it has successfully adapted Illuminet Holdings, Inc.'s Roamer Online Support Service (ROSS(TM)) application for use through a standard Web browser The program that serves as your front end to the Web on the Internet. In order to view a site, you type its address (URL) into the browser's Location field; for example, www.computerlanguage.com, and the home page of that site is downloaded to you. .

BHMI, a professional software services firm, utilized its WebConcourse program to Web-enable Illuminet's ROSS, a wireless roaming and fraud management application. Illuminet operates the largest unaffiliated Signaling System 7 (SS7) network in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  and is a leading provider of complementary advanced signaling technology and applications to telecommunication carriers. The client uses a modem connected to a computer and a telephone line to dial into an Internet service provider's (ISP) node to establish a modem-to-modem link, which is then routed to the Internet. , Illuminet executives said.

Illuminet's ROSS application monitors wireless roaming, detects probable calling fraud, and blocks roaming calls when fraud has been detected. Illuminet, seeking to make the application more user-friendly, efficient, and accessible, contracted BHMI to Web-enable the ROSS application. Now, ROSS customers will be able to control all functions, including setting thresholds and identifying potentially fraudulent roaming activity, from a standard Web browser. Access will be password-restricted to authorized users.

Previously, wireless providers accessed ROSS via dial-in connections. The dial-in system required proprietary software and relied on character-mode screens. To Web-enable ROSS, BHMI custom-developed all necessary browser, bridging, and transaction server software.

ROSS currently runs on a Compaq NonStop(TM) Himalaya(TM) K2000 system with Apache(TM) WebServer, running on a Linux(TM) platform, providing front-end Web server functions. BHMI bridging software on the Web server provides connectivity to BHMI transaction software on the application server. This latter software maps requests and responses between browser clients and the current ROSS application, thereby creating a new client look without impacting the underlying ROSS service logic. "As we built the client components of the Web interface, we wanted to give application users the same functionality they were used to with the old interface so it would be easy to use. But we also wanted to make it more intuitive and efficient," stated Cheryl Fitzgarrald, BHMI Senior Project Manager.

"This Web interface not only gives the ROSS application a modern interface; it allows ROSS users universal access into the application," stated Patrick Wilcox, Product Manager for Illuminet Wireless Services. "Web-enabling the ROSS application has also streamlined Illuminet's software deployment Software deployment is all of the activities that make a software system available for use.

procedures. To add a new user or deploy a new release of software, we will simply have users access the application via their browsers," added Wilcox.

"We are very pleased with the development and support capabilities offered by BHMI. They were easy to work with, and they completed the project on-time and on-budget," stated Paul Florack, Director of Illuminet Wireless Services. "Users of the ROSS application will greatly appreciate the familiar, easy-to-use Web interface and the universal access," added Florack.
