BGT has announced that Spain has joined five other consortium
nations in signing a Memorandum of Understanding for the preparation,
pilot lot production and series production of about 4000 Iris-T
short-range air-to-air missiles. Spain's order includes 700 Iris-T
missiles, with Germany, Greece, Italy, Norway and Sweden accountable for
the remainder. Iris-T integration work is underway for the Eurofighter
Typhoon, the Tornado and Greece's F-16--for which work is all but
completed. Integration on the JAS 39 Gripen is scheduled to begin in
2004.
