As of 2005, the population was estimated at 546,331. The county level of government is currently of diminishing importance in Massachusetts, with most governmental from Calpine Corporation. BG will pay $90.2 million for the assets of Dighton Power Associates and fund the acquisition through internal sources. The purchase has been approved by the bankruptcy court with closing expected to occur shortly after receiving Federal Energy Regulatory Commission The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is the United States federal agency with jurisdiction over electricity sales, wholesale electric rates, hydroelectric licensing, natural gas pricing, and oil pipeline rates.
