BG Challenge raises RO 100,000.

The 19 teams that participated in the BG Energy Challenge 2009 raised RO100,000 for the Al Noor Association for the Blind to fund its new centre in Nizwa. A hundred and twenty participants representing a number of companies took part in the three-day fundraising and team-building event.

While presenting the cheque at the awards barbecue held at the Capital Area Yacht Centre, Dr Arshad Sufi, vice-president, Oman and Middle East, BG Oman, said he was AaeproudAAE that this yearAAEs event had been a success. AoRO100,000 is a tremendous amount of money.

The teams, their companies and sponsors, our volunteers, corporate supporters and organising team have all helped ensure the charity can expand the life-saving work.Ao

 team, called AaeProfessional Drop OutsAAE, raised the highest individual sum of RO7,155. The same team was also the eventual Challenge points winner with 118 points.

Since 1996, the BG Challenge has contributed over US$4.5mn to charities. The event took place in Quriyat and involved mountain biking on a 25km track over roads and soft sand, a 3km trek up and down dunes, as well as a host of tough mental and physical challenges.

Also present at the cheque presentation ceremony was H E Nasser al Jashmi, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Oil and Gas, who thanked Aoall the teams for participating in the event, and those who supported a very worthwhile local charityAo.
