BG&E SENDS CREWS TO HELP RESTORE POWER IN PHILADELPHIA AREA

BALTIMORE, Jan. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Twenty-one Baltimore Gas & Electric Co. (NYSE: BGE) repair crews currently are in the Philadelphia area helping to restore power in the wake of a severe winter storm that struck the area Friday night.
The BG&E contingent of 68 volunteers left the Glen Burnie Service Center about 4:15 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 8) and is expected to return by Tuesday. The crews are operating BG&E bucket trucks and "pole cats," which are used to dig holes for utility poles.
BG&E's Transportation and Telecommunications departments are providing technical support for the operation, which is being coordinated from the utility's state-of-the-art Mobile Operations Center.
The request for assistance came from the Philadelphia Electric Co. (PECO). The BG&E crews are working in Chester, Pa. PECO reports that 200,000 customers in southeast Pennsylvania were affected by the storm, which caused extensive damage primarily from freezing rain. As of this morning, power had been restored to more than 100,000 customers.
BG&E is a member of the Edison Electric Institute's Mutual Assistance Group, a program designed to assist member utilities in need of help. Participating utilities are later reimbursed in full for labor and materials expended in the restoration effort.
