 BG&E ISSUES SAFE DRIVING CHALLENGE
BALTIMORE, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- HOW AM I DRIVING? CALL

410-685-0123!
Baltimore Gas & Electric Company (NYSE: BGE) challenges its customers to respond to this question by reporting positive or negative comments about BG&E vehicles. The commitment to safe driving continues to be important to BG&E.
"By making June 'How am I driving?' month, we continue to demonstrate our commitment to safe driving," said George D. England, chairman of BG&E's Accident Prevention and Occupational Health Planning Group. "Our people are out in the community every day and they need to drive safely to set a good example and to maintain the positive image they already have."
The company's commitment to safe driving is demonstrated by the limited number of complaints received. An average of 100 complaints were received for approximately 27 million miles of driving last year.
The company also urges all drivers to pay special attention to children and work zones. School will be out by the end of June and more children will be playing outside and crossing streets. Special precautions need to be taken around utility and work sites to halt the increase of tragic accidents. BG&E offers these work-zone safety tips:
 -- Drive defensively.
-- Respond to directional and warning signs and devices promptly: do not wait until the last minute to merge.
-- Drive at a safe speed.
 -- Do not tailgate.
-- Watch out for workers or vehicles in the road or on the shoulder. Be prepared to stop for a flagger.
-- Drive with courtesy and consideration.
Nationwide, there were 758 deaths in 1990 that were associated with work-zone traffic accidents. This is a significant increase over the 399 deaths which occurred in 1985. These tragic accidents can be avoided if we all take responsibility and recommit ourselves to being safe drivers.
