 BFI NAMES NEW GENERAL COUNSEL
 HOUSTON, April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Browning-Ferris Industries, Inc.

(NYSE: BFI) today announced that the board of directors elected Richard Goodyear, 50, as senior vice president and general counsel, effective May 11, 1992, reporting to William D. Ruckelshaus, chairman and chief executive officer. Goodyear, former general counsel for the Chrysler Corporation, fills a vacancy caused by the resignation of Howard S. Hoover, Jr., in September 1991.
"Dick Goodyear brings a broad array of skills and experience to BFI," said William D. Ruckelshaus. "As this industry continues to undergo fundamental change, his considerable talents will serve this company very well."
Goodyear is presently co-managing partner of the Los Angeles office of Debevoise & Plimpton, a post he has held since 1988. Prior to that, he was vice president, general counsel and secretary of the Chrysler Corporation in Detroit, from 1981 to 1987.
Prior to joining Chrysler, Goodyear was with Occidental Petroleum Corporation for six years, serving as assistant general counsel and subsequently becoming president of Occidental Resource Recovery Systems, Inc., a subsidiary in the waste-to-energy business.
Goodyear joined Debevoise & Plimpton as an associate after graduating from Yale Law School with honors in 1967, having received his BA from Yale in 1964. While on a leave of absence from his law firm, he served as assistant general counsel of the Ford Foundation.
Browning-Ferris Industries, Inc. is one of the largest publicly-held companies engaged in providing waste services. Subsidiaries and affiliates collect, transport, treat and dispose of commercial, residential and municipal solid waste and industrial wastes. BFI subsidiaries are also involved in recycling, resource recovery facilities, medical waste services, portable restroom services, and municipal and commercial sweeping operations.
