BFGoodrich closing Kitchener tire factory.BFGoodrich Tire Manufacturing, a unit of France's global tiremaker Michelin, said operations at the Kitchener Kitchener, city (1991 pop. 168,282), Regional Municipality of Waterloo, S Ont., Canada, in the Grand River valley. Settled largely by Mennonites from Pennsylvania in 1806, it was known as Berlin until 1916, when it was renamed in memory of Lord Kitchener. Its products include packaged meats, metal and leather goods, spirits, appliances, furniture, and rubber products., Ontario, Canada, tire plant will cease July 22 when the current collective agreement with the United Steelworkers expires. The Kitchener plant employs 1,100 workers. Production will shift to other unionized operations in the U.S. The factory in Kitchener produces BFGoodrich, Uni-royal and private-brand mass market tires, mainly sold in the U.S. |
