BEYOND COMPARE RECONCILES CHANGES IN TEXT FILES.

Scooter Software, Madison, Wisc., has released version 2.0.1 of Beyond Compare, the advanced file and folder comparison utility for Windows. Beyond Compare helps you visualize and reconcile changes in your text files, keep your folders in sync, and validate copies or backups of your data. Its major components are a side-by-side folder viewer and side-by-side file viewers.

Beyond Compare is ideal for system administrators, programmers, translators, Q/A staff, or anyone who needs to manage different copies or versions of data. The Explorer-style folder viewer quickly identifies files with differences and handles huge directory trees with ease. Folder icons are color-coded to reflect their contents even when closed. The new snapshot feature stores the state of a directory tree so you can compare it with the live data at a later time to see what's changed.

The file viewer displays and compares text files such as source code, scripts, web pages and program output. The new text alignment algorithm includes a "closeness" measurement for better alignment of mismatched text. It has more options for defining unimportant text, so you can concentrate on important differences. There are more editing commands, unlimited undo/redo, an over/under mode (in addition to side-by-side), and a web browser view for html files.

Plug-in viewers that extend the functionality of Beyond Compare are available to registered users. There are plug-ins available that show side-by-side comparisons of binary data, tabular data, images, and file version information.
