BEWARE THE 'SO-CALLED SECURITY EXPERTS,' WARNS MOSHE ALON, WHO IS AN EXPERT

LOS ANGELES, April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- In Los Angeles today, beware of "so-called security experts," warns Moshe Alon, who heads his own Professional Security Systems, a Los Angeles-based company that has represented companies and individuals for the past decade.
Alon, a former Israeli secret service officer, has an international reputation in the fields of counter-terrorism and training, aviation security, fright assessment and dignitary protection. He works with multinational, global conglomerates. International political leaders have his number in their rolodexes, as do celebrities such as Elizabeth Taylor and Barbra Streisand.
For Alon and his fellow security professionals, the Rodney King trial does not necessarily mean more business.
"True, I have been called in to consult on security situations with both individuals and companies, but I also have clients who are so concerned by the climate in the city that they are moving out, some permanently," he says.
Adding to the circumstances, Alon is finding people "who call themselves security experts but are merely three armed men with little or no training -- that's one idiot and two kids. In this state, it is possible to get some kind of license with four hours of training and call yourself a security person. Some companies are hiring these guys just to have bodies on the ground. It's just pretending to have security and will, in the worst-case scenario, cause more problems. A lot of people are offering things they just cannot provide."
Alon feels that the current environment in Los Angeles resembles the 1950s atom bomb scares or the 1960s "the Russians are coming" furor. "It's way overplayed," says Alon. "This is not an invading army, and yet some people are treating it that way."
Alon agrees with the politicians who are calling for calm. But he also thinks that precautions should be taken. "If you are a rich- looking white person sitting outside a cafe drinking coffee then -- at a certain time -- you are at risk," he says. "Also, too many guns are available to the wrong people. If you have no training, a gun is not the answer."
