BET HOLDINGS NAMES ALAN NICHOLS VICE PRESIDENT OF
 CORPORATE DEVELOPMENT AND STRATEGIC PLANNING
WASHINGTON, March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- BET Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: BTV) today announced the appointment of Alan H. Nichols Jr., former vice president in the Media Investment Banking Group of the First Boston Corporation, to vice president of corporate development and strategic planning. Nichols will also direct the company's shareholder relations activities.
In making the announcement, Robert L. Johnson, president and chief executive officer, stated, "Our primary audience, black America, is growing at a faster rate than the total population of the United States. At First Boston, Nichols was responsible for providing corporate finance and merger acquisitions advice to various media companies, the majority of which operated in the cable television industry. Nichols has worked extensively on public and private offerings of debt and equity, and has participated in a mix of strategic analyses and projects. He was the lead investment banker in BET Holdings' initial public offering in October 1991.
Nichols received an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School in 1986. At Columbia, he was awarded the Samuel Bronfman Fellowship for leadership in Democratic Business Enterprise. Prior to attending Columbia, he was a financial analyst in Salomon Brothers' corporate finance department. He received an A.B. in history from Stamford University in 1981.

BET provides a broad mix of black-oriented programming either acquired or produced at the company's production facilities in Washington and Burbank, Calif. BET also owns a 44 percent interest in ECI, the publisher of Emerge, a black, general interest magazine.
