Bairbre Flood, 27, agreed to do community service after admitting a public order offence last April. Flood - a former member of Ogra Fianna Fail, the party's youth movement - attacked Mr Ahern during a pre-election walkabout on Sligo's O'Connell Street. As he went to shake her hand, she said "Howya Bertie" and produced the offending pastry from under her jacket. She threw it in his face and made off, but was stopped by gardai and held in custody for two hours. Her solicitor told Sligo Circuit Court that Flood was frustrated with politics in general and had no specific agenda against Fianna Fail or the Taoiseach. But Judge Oliver McGuinness said the incident had been no run-of-the-mill public order offence, describing it as premeditated rather than off-the-cuff. He said it had been a calculated effort to insult, demean de·mean 1 tr.v. de·meaned, de·mean·ing, de·means To conduct or behave (oneself) in a particular manner: demeaned themselves well in class. and embarrass in the full glare of publicity. He added Flood, of Ballinacarrow, Co Sligo, had carried out an attack on democracy and society, and jail would be an appropriate punishment. It would also send out a message to anybody considering a similar thing. But the judge gave her the alternative of community service and a chance to put "something back into society". She was remanded on continuing bail until December 19 for a community service report. Flood was an advocate of an international pie-throwing network called the Biotic Baking Brigade The Biotic Baking Brigade is a loosely connected group of activists, famous for throwing pies in the faces of such figures as Bill Gates, San Francisco mayor Willie Brown, anti-gay preacher Fred Phelps, economist Milton Friedman, Swedish King Carl Gustaf, former Canadian Prime - motto "To their lies we respond with pies".
