BERRY FEELS KINSHIP WITH THE LATE DOROTHY DANDRIDGE.

Byline: Marilyn Beck & Stacy Jenel Smith

Halle Berry Halle Maria Berry (IPA: /ˈhæliː ˈbɛriː/) (born August 14, 1966[1]) is an American actress. , who stars next month in HBO's ``Introducing Dorothy Dandridge Dorothy Jean Dandridge (November 9, 1922–September 8, 1965) was an American actress. She was the first African American to be nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Actress category and the third Black American to receive a nomination in any Oscar category overall (after ,'' feels a great similarity to the late, tragedy-plagued actress who died at age 42 of an overdose of a prescription drug prescription drug Prescription medication Pharmacology An FDA-approved drug which must, by federal law or regulation, be dispensed only pursuant to a prescription–eg, finished dose form and active ingredients subject to the provisos of the Federal Food, Drug, .

She says of the beauty who was the first African-American to receive an Oscar nomination as lead actress, ``Like her, I am struggling to find my place in Hollywood. White actresses might not be able to stay on top - but at least they get their two minutes in the sun.''

She's more philosophical about the matter than she used to be. After spending 10 years attempting to realize her potential in Hollywood, she says, ``If I don't get my two minutes, someone else down the line will. As Dorothy Dandridge did, I'm passing the ball to every other actress who'll come after me.

``The fact that I have survived in the industry stream - in which black women must swim upstream - enables me to sleep well at night. Will `Introducing Dorothy Dandrige' (which she co-produced) bring me my `two minutes' - the chance to make a great contribution in the industry? I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

Berry, last seen on screen in Warren Beatty's disappointing ``Bulworth,'' will be co-starring with Ian McKellen and Anna Paquin Anna Helene Paquin (born July 24, 1982) is an Academy Award-winning and Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated Canadian actress. As far as her private life, well, she's trying very hard to keeping it private.

    The wedding rap

What a wedding it's going to be on July 24 for music stars Pepa (Sandra Denton) and Treach (Anthony Criss). The pair already held a hip-hop pseudo-wedding April 2 - when they had rings tattooed on their fingers. This time, says Pepa, they're having a more traditional ceremony - and lavish reception - for 370-plus friends and family at their New Jersey home.

It won't be completely traditional, believe us. Presiding over the nuptials will be none other than rap star Run (Joseph Simmons) of Run-D.M.C., who, Pepa tells us, is a credentialed minister in New York New York, state, United States

'' Another bit of extra excitement - Pepa's Salt-n-Pepa group mate, Spinderella (Dee Dee Roper) is due to give birth right around the time of the wedding. ``She says she'll do her best to hold off,'' Pepa says.

There won't be time for a honeymoon till August. First, she has to complete recording of new material that will be included on a forthcoming Salt-n-Pepa greatest hits album. As far as the next full studio album, ``We're way behind,'' she admits.

``Friends'' star David Schwimmer, Ethan Hawke, ``Spin City's'' Richard Kind, Kim Raver of ``Trinity'' and NBC's upcoming ``Third Watch'' - those are just a few of the names working for a trifle of their worth for the luxury of being part of the 44th season of the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Massachusetts.

``You do TV to pay the bills, you do this as a reminder of why you started acting,'' says Raver, who's co-starring at the festival with Schwimmer in the premiere of ``Glimmer Brothers,'' by Warren Leight, this year's Tony winner for ``Side Man.''

They've been rehearsing from morning to night since June 22, in preparation for an 11-day run of the drama that kicks off Wednesday. Most exciting to Kim: Manuel Boyer, the French filmmaker with whom she lives in New York, will be finishing an assignment in France in time to join her in Williamstown for the final two performances of ``Glimmer Brothers.'' ``He's so wonderful, it's been terrible being apart from him,'' she says.
