BERGEN SAYS SHE QUITS - REALLY - THIS TIME.

Byline: Marilyn Beck & Stacy Jenel Smith

Candice Bergen Candice Patricia Bergen (born May 9, 1946) is an Academy Award-nominated and Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning American actress and former fashion model, known primarily for her roles in sitcoms and television.  wants to make it absolutely, positively, abundantly clear: When ``Murphy Brown'' starts its 10th season on Oct. 1, it will be the beginning of the final season of the show. Absolutely. Positively.

She acknowledges, ``I don't have much credibility about the matter - having said for the last three years that I wouldn't do another year of the series. But this year it's different - I've declared it going in, so that the writers know how to develop the final story arc.''

She stresses, ``It would simply not be possible to do an 11th year. The whole point of this year is to have a final year with a sense of closure.''

She makes it sound like ... naw ... they're not going to kill off Murphy, are they?!

They're not, promises Candice. Murphy will fight the mighty fight against breast cancer this season and will prove once again that she is a survivor.

Incidentally, Candice says that this season, with ``Murphy Brown'' creator Diane English Diane English (born 1948 in Buffalo, New York) is a U.S. television producer and writer. She is the creator of the television series Murphy Brown. She was also a writer and producer for the television series My Sister Sam.

She graduated from Buffalo State College in 1970.
once again actively involved with the show, the series is ``terrific, wonderful. It's started off on a high I can't believe.''

She was a breath of fresh air and love and compassion.''

She doesn't wonder

Baptist Mary Costa lets us know, ``I feel honored to represent Disney.'' Costa, you may recall, is the operatic singer and '50s-'60s television personality who supplied the voice of Princess Aurora in Disney's 1959 animated ``Sleeping Beauty'' - which is due to be re-released on video Sept. 16.

Referring to the highly publicized Baptist Convention boycott of Disney, she says, ``I feel one good thing about being a Baptist is the Convention can't tell individual churches what to do. And the individual churches make it each member's responsibility to decide for themselves.'' It's an easy decision for Costa, who considered Walt Disney Noun 1. Right now, she couldn't be happier with the company - and its response to her request that a ``Sleeping Beauty'' screening be held to benefit the anti-child abuse organization ChildHelp, with which Costa has worked for two years. They're holding a re-premiere of ``Sleeping Beauty'' with all the Disney trimmings, including a character parade in Costa's hometown of Knoxville, Tenn., on Friday, with proceeds going to the charity.
