BERGEN BRUNSWIG FORMS ALLIANCE WITH PHARMACEUTICAL CARE NETWORK TO MARKET PROGRAM NATIONWIDE

ORANGE, Calif., Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Bergen Brunswig Corp. (NYSE: BBC) announced that it has formed an alliance with Pharmaceutical Care Network (PCN), a subsidiary of the California Pharmacists' Association, to provide retail pharmacies nationwide with improved access to third party prescription plans.
The joint effort between Bergen Brunswig and PCN features open participation under the Managed Care Access Alliance (MCAA) umbrella and is designed to strengthen support for community pharmacy.
With increases in restricted third party payment plans, access to these plans has become crucial for continued growth of retail pharmacy. PCN, a prescription benefit management company, has become a successful competitor in the prescription card plan arena, having signed with more than 150 plans that cover more than a million lives nationwide.
Bergen Brunswig, the nation's second largest drug distributor, now serves more than one in five independent pharmacies in the United States and has long supported efforts by PCN and other similar organizations.
Active enrollment for the MCAA program is underway. For more information regarding the program, contact Michael Fenerin at 714-385-4000.
