BENTWORTH MIDDLE SCHOOL WINS ENERGY OLYMPIAD

 PITTSBURGH, March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Six students from Bentworth Middle School in the Bentworth School District Wednesday won the fifth annual Energy Olympiad sponsored by Equitable Gas and the Mon Valley Education Consortium, it was announced today.
 The students outperformed teams from 20 schools and will be recognized by Lt. Governor Mark Singel May 10, in Harrisburg, Pa., as part of the Governor's Energy Education Award program.
 The team from Rostraver Middle School, Belle Vernon Area School District, placed second and will receive a Carnegie Science Center program for 250 students. South Allegheny Junior/Senior High School from the South Allegheny School District won third place and will receive $200 worth of science-related videos from Three Rivers Bank & Trust Company.
 During the course of the daylong Olympiad, the students competed in 10 energy-related events, such as designing an aerodynamic vehicle, racing rocket ships they designed and spinning the energy wheel to answer questions.
 The winning team from Bentworth was made up of Lindsey Detrick, Valerie Proto, Chris Zuver, Edith Higgins, Caitlin Roberts, and Brian Johnson.
 Rostraver's team was made up of Ed Essey, Chris Pastor, Anna Trimbath, Sean Patterson, Kandi Williams and Dave Huss.
 The South Allegheny team consisted of Jennifer Spanbauer, Chris Urban, Jennifer Phillips, Brian Novobilsky, David Wunderley, and Jaci Ambrocik.
 Participating schools were: Bellmar Middle School, Belle Vernon School District; Beth Center Middle School, Beth Center School District; California Middle School, California Area School District; Clairton Education Center, Clairton School District; Cornell Middle School, McKeesport Area School District; Duquesne Junior/Senior High School, Duquesne City School District; East Allegheny Junior/Senior High School, East Allegheny School District; East Junior High School, Woodland Hills School District; Harrison Junior High School, Baldwin-Whitehall School District; Independence Middle School, Bethel Park School District; Margaret Bell Miller Middle School, Central Greene School District; McClure Middle School, McKeesport Area School District; Monessen Junior/Senior High School, Monessen City School District; West Junior High School, Woodland Hills School District; West Mifflin Middle School, West Mifflin School District; Woodlawn Middle School, Steel Valley School District; and Yough Junior/Senior High School, Yough School District.
