BENIDORM BEST FOR PACKAGE HOLIDAYS; Tourist trap tops for Brits.Byline: By Joanne Curran BENIDORM has been hailed as Britain's favourite package holiday resort. And the accolade will mean even more to the town's tourist chiefs as it is based on reviews by real families who save up for months for their summer holiday. Benidorm scored the maximum five stars in feedback based on atmosphere, cost of food and drink, things to do, restaurants and nightlife and an overall rating. The results were compiled from thousands of customer reviews by the UK's biggest travel company, Thomson, as a guide for would-be holidaymakers going away this summer. Benidorm came top followed by Puerto San Miguel San Miguel (sän mēgĕl`), city (1993 pop. 118,214), E El Salvador, at the foot of San Miguel volcano (6,996 ft/2,132 m). It has textile, rope, and dairy-products industries. The region produces cotton, henequen, and vegetable oil. on Ibiza's north coast and the Turkish resort of Marmaris in third place. The results show how well some resorts have done in ditching their image of shoddy hotel rooms and allday English breakfasts to attract gushing gush v. gushed, gush·ing, gush·es v.intr. 1. It is located southeast of Tenerife and west of Fuerteventura. coming fifth. But it also shows how much some former British favourites have to do to keep up with their rivals, with no room in the top 10 for anywhere in Tenerife, the Algarve or the Costa del Sol. The rest of the top 10 includes Greek island Paphos and Tingaki on the island of Kos, Icmeler and Altinkum in Turkey and Puerto Pollensa in Majorca. Thomson said the review system painted a much better picture of a resort than their brochures might because it included small but important details as well as a warts-andall description. A spokesman said: "You've read the brochure, seen the photos and it looks great. But what's it really like? "These honest holiday reviews are from past travellers and give the low-down on the food, the location and pretty much the whole shebang."
