``To know Aaron, everyone likes him. The kid has a smile on his face even today. His hope (of recovery) is so strong and that's part of his recovery,'' said Toni Armstrong, the mother of motocross racer Matt Armstrong and an organizer of the fund-raising event.

``Being a motocross mom, I couldn't sit and do nothing. I had to help out,'' Toni Armstrong said. ``We all have hope that he may walk again, but he's got a lot of work in front of him.''

Baker is expected to be moved soon to a hospital in Northridge, before being transferred next month to a hospital in Phoenix that specializes in treating spinal injuries.

Once he's in Phoenix, Baker will be closer to his father, Dan, who flew up from his home to be with Aaron. The family has been staying on the hospital grounds in a motor home loaned them by another motocross family.

``He's a tough little kid,'' said Dan Baker. ``He's doing relatively good for the extent of his injury.''

Aaron is now able to flex some of his upper body and retains sensation all over his body, he said.

And throughout his ordeal, Aaron has maintained a positive outlook.

``Aaron is a very upbeat, positive person,'' said Brian Woodring, the owner of Stiffie Max. ``He's the type of person that people are drawn to, he's a real happy-go-lucky guy. I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)
