About the only members of the Lakers bench that didn't contribute to Sunday's victory over Portland might have been Cuba Gooding Jr., Denzel Washington Denzel Hayes Washington, Jr. (born December 28, 1954) is a two-time Academy Award and Golden Globe Award-winning American actor and director. He has garnered much critical acclaim for his portrayals of several real-life figures, such as Steve Biko, Malcolm X, Rubin "Hurricane"  and Jack Nicholson John Joseph Nicholson (born April 22 1937), known as Jack Nicholson, is a three time Academy Award winning American actor internationally renowned for his often dark-themed portrayals of neurotic characters. .

Derek Fisher Derek Lamar Fisher (born August 9 1974 in Little Rock, Arkansas) is an American professional basketball player with the Los Angeles Lakers. He was with the Utah Jazz but asked to be released from his contract to care for his 10-month-old daughter, who has cancer.  scored four points and had four assists in nine minutes. Travis Knight, who played 17 minutes of solid defense and worked hard on the glass, even earning Shaquille O'Neal's plaudits.

``Travis really played well,'' O'Neal said. ``He got a lot of key rebounds. I told him that the rebounds I am not able to get, I need him to get. He is my hero tonight.''

What coach Del Harris' bench is doing now is paying dividends for those tough injury-marred periods in April.

``I think we had a 10-game stretch in April where every starter missed at least two games,'' the coach said. ``And we still won eight of those games.''

The confidence gained then, in the dog days of the regular season, has started to show up now that teams like Portland are yipping at their expensive sneakers sneakers
