BELUSHI PUSHED OUT OF `BLUES BROTHERS' SEQUEL.

Byline: Marilyn Beck & Stacy Jenel Smith

Jim Belushi is not taking it lightly that ``Blues Brothers 2000'' is being made without him.

``I'm doing a little detective work to find out why I'm out. I can tell you, I'm very upset about the situation,'' he relates.

He stresses that he was available for the project - he toiled for years to bring it to the screen.

``I would have worked on the film for 26 days. It shoots in June, July and August. I am free in June and July. I start my series (ABC's ``Total Security'') in August, but when Steven Bochco Steven Ronald Bochco (born December 16, 1943) is an American television producer and writer. He has been involved in a number of popular hits including Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, and NYPD Blue.  learned about the situation, he said he'd block me out of shooting of the show for 10 days in August. Which 10 days? Universal said they couldn't tell me.

``The only way I can figure, Universal could not find it in their power to make the situation work. But I've been in this business long enough to know that when two people want to work together, they make it work.''

Universal still insists, as a spokesperson puts it, ``It was not possible to accommodate the production schedules of the film and the series.''

As for Belushi, he says, ``I worked three years learning to sing for the movie. I haven't really gotten mad yet - I'm still in a state of denial.'' He adds that Dan Aykroyd Daniel Edward Aykroyd CM (born July 1, 1952) is an Academy Award-nominated and Emmy Award-winning Canadian/American comedian, actor, screenwriter, and musician. He was an original cast member of Saturday Night Live , who will star, is just as upset. ``It's like splitting up two brothers.''

Right now, Jim's fielding some film offers for June and July. He also wants to spend time in Martha's Vineyard Martha's Vineyard (vĭn`yərd), island (1990 est. pop. 8,900), c.100 sq mi (260 sq km), SE Mass., separated from the Elizabeth Islands and Cape Cod by Vineyard and Nantucket sounds.  - at his late brother's home, which he purchased from John's widow last year.

And, he says, he'll continue to try to find out why he's not making ``Blues Brothers 2000.''

Bouncin' and misbehavin'

Slated for a mid-July start is ``Mud-Flap Women,'' a tale in which FBI agents named Brad Moler and Leigh Skaldy discover the world is being run by alien beings disguised as truckers. (They use mud flaps featuring pinup-style gals as a code.) The low-budget indie adventure will lead the intrepid twosome to a particular truck stop for some pretty heavy action. Sounds like a hoot.

There's no place like home

Tom Skerritt is finally home in Seattle - after working nonstop most everywhere but there since his ``Picket Fences'' series ended last year. He made ``Divided by Hate,'' the USA Network drama that airs this fall, in Salt Lake City. He filmed Bob Zemeckis' upcoming ``Contact'' in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , New Mexico New Mexico, state in the SW United States. Skerritt commuted to his Seattle residence from L.A. shooting of ``Picket Fences'' whenever possible. And now, when asked what he's doing next, he responds, ``I'm turning things down. My next project is staying home.'' He does add, though, ``With my Midwestern work ethic. I won't be able to sit still. There's a screenplay I want to start writing.''

A new flight

Crystal Bernard's ``Wings'' may have been clipped - the farewell episode of the long-running sitcom aired last week - but she's still flying. Putting her all into the musical side of her career, Crystal reports from the road that she's put in 60 concert dates on her current tour swing so far, traveling from Missouri to Indiana, Michigan to Tennessee to Alabama and on.

``A lot of my friends in music are so weary of the road, but it's new and exciting for me right now,'' notes Crystal, who has a self-titled album in release. ``You don't get any feedback on a soundstage, so it's really thrilling to be doing concerts and get an immediate response from 10,000 people at a time.''

Bernard doesn't plan to forsake her acting, however. She says, ``I've got eight scripts on my bed that I've gotta read.''
