BELTRAN HAS ENOUGH IN END FORMER MONROE HIGH, MOORPARK COLLEGE RUNNER TOP AREA FINISHER.

Byline: Gideon Rubin Staff Writer

Sabino Beltran is more than six years removed from his collegiate running career. But to hear him tell it, his competitive juices are still flowing.

Beltran, a former Monroe High of North Hills and Moorpark College Moorpark College is a California-state funded community college located on a 134 acre (542,000 m²) property reclining on a hill in Moorpark, a town in Ventura County, California.  cross-country standout, said sheer determination were about all he had left the last two miles of Sunday's L.A. Marathon.

Beltran, 29, who ran his fourth L.A. Marathon, was the top area finisher, placing 45th overall in the men's circuit with a 2:43.07 performance.

``The hardest part was the last two miles,'' he said. ``I was doing well, but then I felt like I hit a wall. I could see the guy behind me and I thought he was going to catch me and that made me push a little bit harder.''

Burbank resident Anicento Espinoza-Chavez, 35, placed 49th with a 2:43.32 finish, more than 30 seconds faster than his 2:44.11 performance last year, when he was the area's top finisher.

Newbury Park resident Stephen Smith, 45, placed 48th with a 2:43.25 time.

Westlake Village's Rossana Robinson, 43, finished 40th in the women's circuit with a 3:25.49 finish.
