BELOVED COACH DIES AT 45.

In April, Tantlinger underwent an experimental 13-hour surgery at UCLA Medical Center UCLA Medical Center is a hospital located on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles in Los Angeles, California. It is rated as one of the top three hospitals in the United States and is the top hospital on the West Coast according to US News & World Report.  to remove cancerous tumors from behind his right ear and jaw. Though the recovery was expected to take six months, Tantlinger returned to the field at Highland within a month, fulfilling his promise to return to the team before the playoffs.

Tantlinger coached the Bulldogs on the day they clinched only the second Golden League championship in school history and during two playoff games.

This summer, he was the assistant coach for his daughter Lauren's travel team, the Antelope Valley Rage. Lauren Tantlinger was the Golden League MVP (Multimedia Video Processor) A high-speed DSP chip from Texas Instruments, introduced in 1994. Officially introduced as the TMS320C80, it combines RISC technology with the functionality of four DSPs on one chip.  in 2003 and a first-team all-league selection as a junior in 2004.

Tantlinger's condition deteriorated quickly after he was admitted to Antelope Valley Medical Center with pneumonia last week.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that a donation be made to help with funeral costs. The Daily News will provide information on where to send the donations as it becomes available.

Tantlinger is survived by his three daughters, mother and sister.
